UPDATE: School Construction Project:
May 2nd marked the first day back to school for our 200 students. Just 3 days earlier we had the whole building swarming with parents and volunteers doing the last of the painting, cleaning and reorganizing furniture. It amazed me again how fast the building can be transformed from a construction site to a clean school.
Thank you to so many who helped us with this project through financial donations and volunteer time. The students and teachers are thrilled with the new space–especially our Jr. High class that now have their own classrooms.
The whole project was finished at our $70,000 US budget which included a $2,000 renovation to our church building adding new offices on the second floor. Funds raised was right about $68,000. The purchase of the property beside the gymnasium gave us space to build 3 offices and a storage room on the main floor and a full classroom upstairs. A second story was built above the gymnasium where we have our brand new audio/visual room. The gym is also where we hold church services Sunday morning as we have outgrown our smaller building. This adjustment called for new renovated bathrooms in the back of the gym which were also completed within budget and with the help of Canadian volunteers. Inside the school we were able to make room for a teachers lounge with a large table for work space and meetings.
Thank you again so much for your prayers and support through this project!
School Construction Project:
As the countdown for the end of school is on, so it is for the breaking ground of the 2 story addition. This space will give us 2 new offices for Sandra and Willian, 2 large storage spaces, a new classroom and a multi purpose AV room.
We are so thankful for the 4 Volunteers from Canada that will be on site at the beginning of March to rebuild 2 bathrooms in the gym and to renovate prior offices into a teacher’s work-space.
We now have 2 new offices on the second story of the church property across the street which have been renovated this month. One will be used for the mission, and the other will be a pastoral office.
All of these changes are to give the school and the church more space. Both have been growing in numbers over the years. In May 2017 the school will have approximately 200 kids registered, and church attendance has been around 70 each week (we have outgrown the church building and have been meeting in the school gym). The Lord is working in the community of Bastion.
We are still raising money to complete these projects and to be able to purchase the furnishings for these new spaces. We will need new desks, chairs, cupboards, fans, tables and whiteboards.
The total cost for the project is estimated at $70,000 (including furnishings) and we are still about $15,000 short of our goal.
